Romana's Pilates Instructor Training Program Requirements for Animo Pilates Studio
Animo Pilates is pleased to be a training studio for the Romana's Pilates Instructor Training Program (ITP) in Austin Texas. This program is designed to teach the deep knowledge of the exercises and safety standards that Romana Krysanowska believed was necessary to become an elite Pilates Instructor. With the network of Instructor Trainers from the Romana’s Pilates Studio in Fort Lauderdale; The Pilates Connection Chicago (TPC)in Evanston, Il and Park Cities Pilates Center Dallas (PCPC) you will receive the information and support needed to reach the exacting standards of teaching that Romana wanted from all of her instructors. With this information you will be given teaching that in Romana’s described as “something you will not learn from a book.” Mr. Pilates believed Romana was the person to best bring his method to the masses and entrusted Romana with the charge of developing a certification program to train apprentices and maintain a teacher’s ability to grow and understand his method. Growing through the program to become an instructor is a long and worthwhile journey that reaps life changing benefits when accepted whole heartedly.
The program usually takes nine to eighteen months to complete. This timeline is designed to meet the development of the apprentice; availability to accomplish the observation hours, private lessons, seminars and test’s; which are all at the three different levels of what Romana’s Pilates calls the “Systems” (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced).
The Romana’s Pilates website, gives an excellent example of how our training program works. Currently, 700 hours of observation are needed for the program. Animo Pilates has a level four instructor and PCPC has a level three instructor who will help you achieve this requirement. For the Seminars, you must travel to either PCPC for the Basic, or take all three at Romana’s Pilates Fort Lauderdale or The Pilates Connection Chicago. Higher leveled teachers from Fort Lauderdale or Chicago may be brought to PCPC if their schedules permit and there are enough apprentices to make the trip affordable. For testing, it is recommended that you schedule your assessment with the Instructor Trainer who has taught its corresponding Seminar.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING THE PROGRAM
Three things are needed. A commitment to your hours of observation, A strong understanding of the Intermediate level, and an Initial assessment with an interview.
Prior to starting the program you must commit to a minimum of fifteen hours a week or sixty hours a month toward your observation hours; along with the dates and times for your scheduled seminars. These hours form the backbone of your apprenticeship where you will develop the abilities needed to teach Pilates to clients and truly understand how different bodies need different exercises and modifications. These hours are in place as a means to grow your knowledge and understanding of Pilates.Specifically, you must be at a strong Intermediate Level in your Pilates Training, per Romana's Pilates. This understanding is needed on the Universal Reformer and Mat. All other pieces of equipment (Cadillac, chairs, barrels and auxiliary equipment.), require a strong Basic understanding of the exercises. This will be decided by a level four or higher, Romana’s Pilates trained instructor. In the past it has taken between fifty and one hundred private lessons before a candidate is prepared to enter the RP certification program. In all, it will show us how your practice has written the Pilates Method into your body.
You must have an interview, along with your initial assessment into the program. The interviewer will ask you questions like but not limited to; why are you seeking certification; and what you plan to do, should you receive certification?
Fees are not owed all at once but it is a preferred practice to settle all financials when beginning each Stage/Level.

This includes: Universal Reformer, Cadillac, Mat and Chairs. To pass your initial assessment you will need to know proper springs setup, the order of the exercises, the ability to flow from one exercise to the next and show an aptitude to learning the exercises. It typically lasts 1.5 hours with an interview. These can be held at Ánimo Pilates or PCPC under a level 4 or 3 instructor.
This covers meetings, tutorials over written tests (does not include lessons) and guidance by your leveled instructor at the studio. Lessons are strongly encouraged (however only 5 are mandatory at each level). Looking down the line, if you have not completed the program after twelve months an additional independent study fee will be added.
Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Seminars are held in Dallas at PCPC. These are three different seminars roughly 3 months apart from each other. You can test out of the previous stage at the next seminar.

Upon certification, you must complete at least one Continuing Education Program; (CPE) per year in order to keep your teaching skills and safety spotting current.
